There is a saying: “if one is not contented in one place will not be contented in another”. There is truth in it dahil ang tao na hindi marunong ma kuntento kung ano mang meron sya ngayon, kahit kelan hindi sya makukuntento dahil laging may kulang. Of course, this is not to say na hindi na tayo mangarap ng mas mataas. But to be thankful of whatever we have right now.

There was a quote in the Bible that says: “I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances.  I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. I can do all this through him who gives me strength”. Philippians 4:11-13

Maganda din sa tao ang laging may pasalamat sa buhay dahil hindi naman sa lahat ng oras ay lagi mong nakukuha ang gusto mo. Minsan may mga pagsubok at mga problema, but those are just tests for you to pass. Those trials and problems are made for a purpose: to strengthen you and to take the best out of you.

There is a song: “I thank you Lord for the trials that come my way…” although some theologians believe it is inviting problems, but in my personal opinion it is not, because the problem is inevitable, hindi maiiwasan. Pero kahit sa problema, sakit at sakuna, kaya ko paring sambitin ang pasasalamat sa Diyos.

Alam mo bang si Lucifer (also known as Satan) ay hindi pinatawad ng Diyos dahil sa paghahangad ng mas mataas. He always wanted more. Some people say that discontentment is a sin and it destroys a person. From discontentment, papasok dyan ang pride, ang pagmamataas at kayabangan.

I remember what Benjamin Franklin said: “discontentment makes a rich man poor and a poor man rich”.

Yong iba, kahit sobrang dami na ng pera, pero ang feeling wala pa din sila. Pero yong iba naman, kahit nagtitinda lang ng balut at chicharon, masaya sila kahit maliit lang ang bahay at kokonte ang meron sila. Anong pagkakaiba? Contentment.

Another form of discontentment is when you count the blessing of others instead of your own. Maraming tao ang ganito, palaging nakikita ang ganda sa buhay ng iba, ngunit nakalimot na marami din syang mga blessings sa buhay nya. Being contented is also thanking God for those unanswered prayers dahil there are many other blessings na ibinigay sa iyo ng Lord without you asking. Start to see yourself as lucky and blessed because you are loved by God. You are His masterpiece. You are unique and is called” the apple of God’s eyes.” So learn to be content. Oo, may mga problema at lagi yang kasama sa buhay, but above all these things, there are still many things you can thank God for: your family, your health, your friendship, your relationship, your job, your safety, you can eat whatever you like now, you can go to wherever you want to go now, you can see, you can smell, you can hear, you can touch, you have a good digestive system and are able to go to the toilet! Yes, I am also grateful that I am able to pooh (sorry for those of you eating) but there are people who walk with a plastic bag in their tummy for their “human waste”. Therefore I would thank God dahil hindi ako ganoon.

Forever, I would count myself blessed. I will feel content with whatever I have right now. I will not compare myself to others because the comparison can steal my joy. I will thank God that I am alive. Contentment is a virtue. Learn to be contented.
