Commit To Excel In Everything You Do

If you want to achieve excellence, you can get there today. As of this second, quit doing less than excellent work. – Thomas Watson

St Paul said in Colossians 3:23 “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.” Kaya kung Kristiyano, God is calling you to excellence.

Para magtagumpay ang negosyo, kelangan may strong commitment to be excellent. Kelangan may mataas na kalidad ang serbisyo or produkto or sa presyo. Sa business, kahit na Managing Director ka, Vice President or janitorial services, there must be a strong desire and commitment to excel in whatever tasks you are expected to do. As a matter of fact, dapat ang isang Christian ay may mas mataas na pagnanais maging excellent in what they do kesa sa mga secular businesses because sa ating excellence nagdadala tayo ng glory and honor to our God. Natutuwa ang Panginoon when we bring praise to His name because we are very good.

Ganoon din sa employment. Whatever you do as a job or work, do it with all your might, gawin mo ng mula sa puso, ng may pagsisikap maging masaya ang amo natin. Don’t say, “I am only paid this small amount, so why would I bother to do more?” That’s a word of an unbeliever, of a person who can miss the great opportunity that God has prepared for those who love Him. Why can’t they say: “Even though I am not getting a good pay now, but I will show my employer and my God that I deserve more… I will excel in what I do. I am committed to become the best…” We should “do” first before we “be”come. Doing comes first before becoming.

You must be willing to do something others are unwilling to do so you can become what others cannot. That’s what successful people have vs unsuccessful people. Successful people are willing to do extra, while unsuccessful people complain and grumble.

Kung nagtatadtad ka na sibuyas or bawang or manok, galingan mo na. Hindi yong gula-gulanit pati mga buto ng baboy or manok. Enjoy in everything you do. Wag nakasimangot pag nagta trabaho. Nakakawala yan ng quality of our workmanship if when we do something with grudges or complaining. Kaya walang bibili ng produkto mo or magbabayad ng serbisyo mo because the outcome is not good.

Kahit sa Pinas ngayon, bakit may mga IKEA, M&S at big brands, because people now are looking for quality and not just based their decision on pricing alone. Ang isang business or trabahante na walang commitment to excellence, madalas ang kanilang outcome ng trabaho ay poor quality, substandard service or poor workmanship. Hindi magandang halimbawa ng pagiging Christian. Nakakalungkot mang isipin, but there are many Christian businesses or employees and workers that have not made a genuine commitment to excel. As a result, they never provide an above-average or superior quality in their products or service. The world is now looking for Christian businesses and workers to set the standard of excellence and bring glory to God almighty – to become the leaders in their field or sectors.

May isang lalaki na expert mechanic na matagal na nag serbisyo sa Ferrari cars. Ferrari is one of the world’s more beautiful and expensive cars. His employer said, I have received your resignation and I am willing to accept this in one condition: “there’s a car over there which was brought in today. Can you fix that car because the owner needs it by next week.” Yong lalaki nagmaktol, araw-araw late pumasok, in short hindi naging maayos ang work nya. The boss came back and ask the guy where is the car. He replied: “sorry boss, talagang hindi ko na kaya. Hindi po naging maayos ang pagkakagawa ko jan sa kotse na yan dahil pagod na pagod na po ako. Pasensya na po kayo. The boss replied: “Ok. As a gesture of goodwill. I want you to have that car you’ve fixed. Good luck to your future.” Nabigla ang lalaki. If only he knew that that car would be his, sana inayos nya, sana ginalingan nya. What you do is the reflection of yourself. Yan ang magiging puhunan mo upang lalo kang yumaman – kung maayos ang iyong hanap-buhay.

Muhammad Ali, one of the greatest boxers of all time said: “If I did not become a boxer, I would become a street sweeper…but I would become the world’s greater street sweeper…”

Kung ikaw ay may-ari ng negosyo or employee, it is your responsibility to maintain the quality of service and products – commit to excellence. Galingan ang serbisyo, galingan ang trabaho. Hindi maikli ang kamay ng Diyos na hipuin para dalhin sa iyo or yong employer mo para magkaroon ka ng salary increase.

Set a very high standard of excellence. Inspect what you expect. Huwag mong hayaan na wala kang pakialam sa mga day to day activities in your business. Maintain an accountability in your job, or in your business with a goal to bring honor and glory to God. In my business, I always call, coordinate with my staff via video or call or chats. I check the CCTV, I check our ratings online and compare it with other businesses. I make sure that all concerns are addressed to and I delegate people to do a specific tasks and make them accountable to me.

In Proverbs 22:29 NIV: “Do you see a man skilled in his work? He will work for kings, not unimportant people.”

In Genesis 39: “The LORD was with Joseph and he prospered, and he lived in the house of his Egyptian master. When his master saw that the LORD was with him and that the LORD gave him success in everything he did, Joseph found favor in his eyes and became his attendant. Potiphar put him in charge of his household, and he entrusted to his care everything he owned. From the time he put him in charge of his household and of all that he owned, the LORD blessed the household of the Egyptian because of Joseph. The blessing of the LORD was on everything Potiphar had, both in the house and in the field…”

We can see these:

1) The Lord was with Joseph and he prospered;

2) He served an Egyptian master – he was trained to serve a lower rank master.

3) His master saw that the Lord was with Joseph as the Lord gave Joseph success in everything he did – walang patama trabaho. In everything he does, he gives his best shot.

4) Joseph found favor in the eyes of his Egyptian master who entrusted him to become a caretaker of everything he owned.

5) the Egyptian master was blessed – that’s the aim of the Christian employees, to become a blessing to the boss /employer. The Bible said: “The Lord blessed the household of the Egyptian master because of Joseph. The blessing of the Lord was on everything Potiphar had…”

6) After Potiphar – Joseph was promoted to be higher than Potiphar because Joseph became the Prime Minister of Egypt – the 2nd in command after King Sesostris II (1894 BC-1878 BC).

7) His family was blessed and enriched because of Joseph! Joseph, another of Jacob’s sons, is a high official in Egypt and allows his father and brothers to settle in Egypt. In Genesis 45:10, Goshen is treated as being close to Joseph, who lives at the pharaoh’s court and in Genesis 47:5 Goshen is called “the best part” of the land of Egypt.

The life of Joseph could be a map to many employees. God may train you with an Egyptian master so to speak, then if you become qualified, become the prime minister. Maaaring yong part-time employment mo, or sideline mo, if you are good, very good in fact, could be your full-time and permanent employment that God can use for you to see His financial breakthrough. When you excel, blessing follows, money follows, good break follows.

People will track you down because you down. Proverbs 22:29 “Do you see a man skilled in his work? He will work for kings, not unimportant people.” Hindi ka maglilingkod sa mga ordinaryong tao, but will serve the kings, the princess and elite class in our society.

The Royal Family had a Filipino nanny: Araceli “Lillie” Piccio worked in Princess Diana’s home for many years before she died in 1997. As Prince William and Prince Harry were growing up, Piccio was their nanny. She must have made a strong mark on William, since he invited her to his wedding to Catherine in 2011.

Queen Elizabeth II gave the British Empire Medal to Filipino nurses in the U.K. at the height of the pandemic to show her appreciation for how hard they worked at their jobs. Minerva Klepacz worked as an optometrist at the Royal Bournemouth Hospital and was honoured in 2020. Charito Romano worked as a staff nurse at the Arbrook House in Surrey and was honoured in 2021.

Over the years, the late Queen also gave prestigious citations to other Filipinos. These included consular officers at the British Embassy in Manila for their help after Supertyphoon Yolanda in 2013, a driver, Mr. Roland Quitevis who first started to work as a messenger and then worked for eight British ambassadors in the Philippines. Joy Ongcachuy, a Filipino nurse has been conferred Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) by Queen Elizabeth for her work in treating the victims of the London Bridge terrorist attack in 2017.

When you excel in what you do, I can hear God saying: “well done, my good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master’s happiness!’ Matthew 25:21

Did you notice that God said about what you have done, not what you prayed for or what you thought was. He said: “well done…” so what we do matters to God because our excellence bring honor to Him.
