I remember the movie ‘Pursuit of Happyness‘ Will Smith advises his son…
“Don’t ever let someone tell you, you can’t do something. Not even me. You got a dream, you got to protect it. People can’t do something themselves, they want to tell you you can’t do it. You want something, go get it. Period.”
Enthusiasm is a synonym of passion, burning desire, hungry. Most of the successful people I know, may it be in business, politics, show business are all hungry and passionate. The very famous Victoria Beckham, one of the singers of Spice Girls and now the wife of famous footballer David Beckham, once said:
‘I want to be as famous as Persil Automatic.’
That made her a superstar. She did not just dreamed it but wanted it enough to getting it. Laugh at it as you may, it’s this highly original imagination that got her where she is today.
Most of us have dreams but lack stamina and passion to get there on the top. We need to have that burning desire to get it. Nothing great is ever achieved without enthusiasm.
One day, Enrico was in his final exam on his final year at high school. His teacher, Mrs Cruz told the whole class to draw out in a piece of paper their future dreams. Some of his classmates drew pictures of them becoming a doctor, a lawyer, a nurse, a policeman. Enrico carefully painted a picture of a big resort by the seaside in a popular tourist destination.
His teacher collected all their paper works and told them that these will be marked and the result will be released tomorrow.
The next day came and Enrico was so excited to receive his marked paper. He saw that his teacher marked it with: “Fail. Not realistic!”
Mrs Cruz told him: “Enrico, you know your family is poor. Where would you get the money to buy the land for a nice resort? Dream should be realistic enough to be achievable. Change your dreams or else I will fail you.”
Enrico accepted the paper, went home and put it on the wall. He went to college and worked in McDonalds as a working student. He saved money until later on enough to work in a beach resort as a coast guard. Later on he became the manager of the resort and when the owner decided to resell, he asked Enrico if he would be willing to buy it through bank financing. To cut the long story short, the loan was approved and he became the owner of the beach resort.
Until now, that piece of paper marked fail is still there hanging on a frame. It reminds him everyday that great things could be achieved through enthusiasm. By the way, on the final note, Mrs Cruz went to a family outing and managed to see Enrico in the resort he now owns. She could not believe it. Mrs Cruz hugged him. She said: “I could never imagined that your life will be this blessed. Nothing is impossible because you worked hard. Well done, Enrico.”
He replied: “Ma’am, I believed that God used you for me to get excited to see my goals from a distance. It made me enthusiastic to prove you wrong.”
