CHANGES TO UK VISITOR VISAS

The following are the main modifications to the newly established Immigration Rules for Visitors:

  • Permitted Intra-Corporate Activities: The government is lifting the ban on conducting intra-corporate business directly with clients. A new rule, nevertheless, is being implemented: any client-facing work the visitor does must be incidental to their work overseas and cannot be the equivalent of outsourcing a project or service to their employer abroad.
  • Permission to Work Remotely: Travellers are now allowed to work remotely while in the UK, but there is a key requirement that this not be their main reason for visiting. This modification recognises the value of flexibility in the modern workplace and reflects the expanding trend of flexible work schedules.
  • Aviation Industry: Between March and October, flight crew members will be permitted entry into the UK under a wet lease agreement that has been approved by the Civil Aviation Authority. With this change, an extant exception to the rules is formalised and included in the Visitor guidelines.
  • Increased Prospects for Scientists, Researchers, and Academics: During their visit, scientists, researchers, and academics will have more chances to carry out research in the UK. Academics, scientists, and researchers who were previously restricted to independent study will now be able to participate in research projects that go beyond their personal goals. Remarkably, academics wishing to extend their authorization from within the UK or apply for a 12-month visit visa are not affected by these changes.
  • Legal Professionals: More activities are now allowed for legal professionals, providing them with more flexibility when visiting the UK.
  • Paid Engagements for Conference presenters: With this addition to the list of Permitted Paid Engagements (PPE), conference presenters can now receive payment for their services. This modification guarantees equitable pay for the speakers’ time and skills while also acknowledging their important contributions.
  • Consolidation of the Permitted Paid Engagement Visitor Route: The Standard Visitor route will incorporate the contents of the Permitted Paid Engagement Visitor route. This implies that all guests will be able to participate in Permitted Paid Engagements without the requirement for a special visa. It’s important to remember, though, that anyone planning to take part in a PPE must to plan their activities ahead of time and finish them within 30 days of being in the UK.

On January 31, 2024, these modifications will go into effect.
