The Immigration (Health Charge) Order 2015 provided for the introduction of IHS to ensure that temporary migrants make a financial contribution to the NHS that is commensurate to their immigration status.

• All revenues generated goes to the UK health services not the Home Office of Department of Health.

• Who pays it? Most temporary migrants applying to work, study or join/remain with family in the UK.

• Who doesn’t pay it? Visitors, indefinite leave to remain, those entering the UK for 6 months or less, certain exempt categories (for example, Tier 2 Intra Company Transfers)

• How much is it? £200 per person per year (£150 for students) payable upfront.

Exemption: You don’t need to pay if you are a UK citizen or an EU citizen or you have indefinite leave to remain. If you are applying for fiance visa, you are not required to pay Immigration Health Surcharge too.
